Background:

The Atlas is an online tool for exploring international questions in a wide range of disciplines, including Sociology, Politics, Geography, Economics, History and others. It provides data, graphics and maps enabling students to explore the cause and consequences of contemporary global inequalities.

The Atlas of Global Inequality provides a range of resources that can be used in large classes, in sections and by students individually. These include:

• Global maps showing change over the last 40 years in life expectancy, infant mortality, GNP/capita, the incidence of major diseases, global income inequalities, foreign investment, and other measures of global inequality.

• Concise descriptions and graphics on each of these aspects of global inequality.

• An interactive database giving access to a wide range of economic, health, educational and social indicators for most countries of the world.

• Concise summaries of debates about income inequality

• Useful teaching ideas that can be used in your classroom, section or independently

• A glossary of terms, a complete bibliography, and links to pertinent web sites.

• Animations showing How to Use the Atlas, How to Use the Database, and How to Read a Graph.

This project is a collaboration of a team of UC Faculty, Staff and students from many disciplines on five UC Campuses.
